Stress at work is inevitable, but a high level of stress and the inability, or lack, of stress management can result in;

  • Raised blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Metabolic syndrome

Stress management is more complicated than most like to think, and is something that should not be ignored, nor deemed normal with the classic, “no job is easy, this stress is part of being an adult.”

Sleeping in a little later may not be the best idea

Rushing to get ready, gulping down a strong cup of coffee and speeding through traffic all for a bit of extra sleep is not worth it. All of those actions immediately put you on edge and throw you into the pit of stress, all by 8 am.

A lack of sleep is, of course, not a good idea either, and juggling work and leisure sometimes mean a late night. So, here are some quick tips:

  1. Prepare a breakfast in advance

whether this be overnight oats or a sandwich, make sure you can grab it in the morning and eat it at the office if necessary – when you sit down, not inhaling it in the car.

  1. Decide what you want to wear to work the night before

find everything you need and place it somewhere where it will not get dirty or creased. If you exercise in the morning, get your exercise gear out and pack your work clothes.

Eat healthy

Yes, a packet of chips or take-aways are easy on the run, but this results in spikes of energy and thus a loss of concentration. Additionally, weight gain or loss may lead to even more stress. Pack a lunch. Browse the internet for “quick and delicious meals on the go”, or “10-minute dinners”.

Exercise

Any exercise is better than no exercise. Find a friend or co-worker and go for a walk, whether this is before work, at lunch or after work.

Confide in friends

Do not rely on your friends for help, but getting it off your chest is like an elephant has been lifted off of you.

You need to actively try not to be stressed. Stress can cause you to lose your job. It is severely detrimental to your physical and mental health and in some cases, even life-threatening. Small lifestyle changes may seem tedious in the beginning, but eventually, it becomes natural.

With regards to businesses, stressed employees not only result in toxic internal functioning but will also the production and standard of your products and services.
